Kym (b. 1981) is an Australian photographer and darkroom printmaker. Her work is centred on ecological literacy, contemporary landscapes, place identity, and the angst of the Anthropocene. Following postgraduate studies in the environmental humanities, she draws on themes that consider our position within our changing environment. Her practice fluctuates between realism and abstraction though is anchored in seeking beauty to convey meaning. A lens-based artist printing with gelatin silver paper, she experiments with alternative and botanical darkroom processes, favouring the lightest footprint where possible. Kym works from her darkroom studio based in Meanjin/Brisbane, and pays respect to Yuggera, Turrbal, and Quandamooka land and peoples.
